By Karin Elgin-Nijhuis

The Processioni della Settimana Santa di Mendrisio: a fascinating example of ‘living’ heritage, in December 2019 added to the UNESCO Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Learn all about the preparations, the passion and dedication with which the local community organise these events during the ‘Special Session on Location

During the Holy Week Mendrioso’s famous Trasparenti, illuminated nocturnal paintings, embellish the ancient town. Walk with us along the route of the processions and visit Casa Croci, a small 19th-century architectural gem, which houses the Museo del Trasparente di Mendrisio.

Stay after the conference to attend the processions on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, 9 and 10 April 2020, and to enjoy Easter in Mendrisiotto, visiting churches, exploring the Lake Lugano, hiking on Monte Generoso and Monte San Giorgio and/or tasting wine. Public transport in Ticino is free of charge for visitors using the Ticino Ticket.
